Pro Stock Review
A first for Michael Callin
Not for the first time, the outcome of a Pro Stock final was decided on driver reactions. On this occasion it was Michael Callin who had the better reaction time over Michael Malmgren and saved his best run of the weekend for the right moment to claim his first FIA European Championship race win. Without reigning champion Jimmy Ålund in the field, anything seemed possible in Pro Stock. During qualifying, Michael Malmgren impressed with two 6.77-second passes and secured the number one position. A 6.87 from Jonas Dantanus was good for second while Michael Callin took the number three spot with a 6.88.

![]() In the first round of eliminations, Callin had no problem with a red-lighting Tommy Leindahl in his wildly painted “Cat Chevy”. Dantanus had a bye run when Harald Sturhan had to shut off with problems on the line. But smoke from under the car indicated there was something wrong with Dantanus’ engine and the Swede had to withdraw from the semi-final. That walkover gave Callin a spot in the final. On the other side of the elimination ladder, Malmgren showed consistency. ![]() A first-round 6.76 was followed in the semi-finals by a 6.78 against Sundblom. The Finn already had problems on the start line and had no chance against a superior Malmgren. In the final Callin did exactly what he had to do against a quicker Malmgren. A 0.032 reaction time gave him a 0.008 advantage over Malmgren. More importantly still, with a 6.792 Callin broke the 6.8sec barrier for the first time this weekend and that was just enough to keep a winning 0.004sec margin over the quicker Malmgren. |
