Rain stops play in
Hockenheim
Timo Habermanns hopes of being Q1 at his home track were dashed when Fred Hanssen produced an amazing 5.381/428.10 which edged Timo's 5.393/416.52 into second place. Number 3 was Peter Schöfer (5.465/416.28). Brother Dennis had to settle for 6th place, behind Dave Wilson and Krister Johansson. Paul Ingar Udtian was in 7th and Derek Flynn improved on his DNQ at Mantorp by making the bump spot with a 5.709/317.77

Fred Hanssen no. 1 qualifyer

Dennis Habermann was running a different body, experimenting with the aerodynamics and weight distribution. His number 6 qualifying position and first round exit shows that it's still a work in progress. The A-Fuel cars were struggling with the track conditions and the fact that the semi-finalists were all blown methanol cars shows this. They are very fast on a good track, but are affected more if there are any issues.

Krister Johansson defeated Dave Wilson in the first round with a holeshot. His 5.49 taking the win and setting him against Fred Hanssen in the semi-final. Fred defeated Derek Flynn 5.378 to 5.575 for that honour. On the other side of the ladder, Timo Habermann easily beat Paul Ingar Udtian with a 5.440/414.55 even though Paul Ingar ran his best time of the weekend (5.567). The pairing of Peter Schöfer and Dennis Habermann ended with neither recording a time after Dennis rolled into and out of stage and Peter left before the lights were started.

The first semi-final saw Fred Hanssen leave first and stay comfortably in front of Krister Johanssen, recording a 5.375/428.10 to the losing 5.453/417.24. It was Fred's fastest run of the weekend and showed he was holding nothing back, thanks to the tuning work of ace Crew Chief Will Hanna.

At this point the eliminations were brought to a halt yet again by the rain. It wasn't possible to dry the track and complete eliminations before the noise curfew. Because the semi-finals weren't completed, championship points have only been awarded up to and including the first round of eliminations.
