SUNOCO Drag Challenge Preview
The event is the 5th UEM Bike Championship round out of 7. Preliminary 6 Top Fuel Bike teams are entered, 14 in  Super Twin and 15 in Pro Stock Bike (the latter for a 16-bike elimination field).

As a short recap, we can tell no eliminations were run in the UEM bike championship classes due to rain at the previous event held at Mantorp Park july 29th-august 1st. Three out of four qualification runs were performed and the event ended by the final qualification standings. Read more about that under the headings for the classes.

Many teams were just in the middle of sorting out the setups and really get it going, when the event came to an abrupt halt late sunday afternoon. Most teams are already set for the NDRG Sunoco Drag Challenge at Gardermoen Raceway now and are eager to get out on the track again.

When calling around to some of the riders and asking them about the forthcoming championship round that starts on friday august 6th, the key words that come up in every discussion (besides "weather"), are "fast track" and "records". A few riders independent of each other express the same thoughts. If it is going to happen it seems like Gardermoen Raceway is THE place for it. When asked what is so special and make the Gardermoen Raceway strip so fast, the common opinion seems to be the smoothness of it. No bumps, no large pores at the surface.. The track itself does not seem to interfere or have a negative impact in the same way as other tracks might. The traction needed to run records seems to be there year after year.

Pro Stock Bike

In the Pro Stock Bike class the thoughts of cutting the ET:s big time compared to what we have seen so far this season are present. As the Gardermoen event 2009 was not included in the UEM championship the Pro Stock Bikes as a class did not run there. So there are not much to compare with and maybe that fact makes it even more interesting and exciting. What numbers can we expect and who will be the quickest after two days of qualifications in the tight, competitive class of Pro Stock Bike?

In Top Fuel Bike, Peter Svensson last year managed the first 5 second run in Europe at Gardermoen (5.93 sec/359 km). Later he ran 5.91 at Santa Pod and there is no doubt he aims for en even lower ET the coming weekend. And he is not the only one with potential for records in the class..

In Super Twin Bike the championship points standings are closer than in the other two classes and all the riders that have anything to do with the battle for European champions title  are entered for the Gardermoen Race.
