Speedgroup in co-operation with Eurodragster.com encouraged the UEM  championship riders to share their thoughts on the upcoming European Finals and more.. the riders who took on the challenge either answered our set questions or expressed their thoughts in writing straight from their  minds and hearts! Below we gather you may find some interesting reading, so please enjoy!

PER BENGTSSON - Super Twin Bike and the 2009 champion, currently in th 9th position in the championship ranking

SG: - How are you preparing for the European Finals ?
PB: We are giving the bike some extra attention and checkup just as a precaution. In addition the tuning strategy we plan in advance is based on what we have learnt this season and our experience from Santa Pod as a track.

SG: - What do you hope for performancewise at the European Finals?
PB: We hope to set a new European record, quicker than 6.45 sec and win the event as a bonus. And of course we wish to outrun the new champion!

SG: - Any major changes done to the car/bike since the last race?

PB: No

SG: - Which drivers/riders in your class do you consider the strongest competitors to win the event at Santa Pod? PB: Lorenz (Stäuble) is always fast at Santa Pod! Exciting to watch who will take the title from us. I think it would be fun to have a first time champion (that would be Olstad or Heezen)!

DAVE BECK - Pro Stock Bike, who holds the European record and is currently 11th in the championship ranking Beck won the recent non-championship event at Shakespeare Raceway UK

DB: -It´s always good to win but to win with good numbers is better. There was a 10 mph head wind on race day so running a 7.23 into that was very pleasing as all the other bike were struggling for speed. We have a good tune up now to start the European Finals off, but will have to go some to beat our 1st pass at last years event (7.16) but we will try.. We now have the new bike all sorted and the motors fresh and high hope for some good performance!

FREDRIK FREDLUND - Pro Stock Bike, who is 3rd in the points standings with chance to advance into the 2nd place

SG: - How are you preparing for the European Finals ?

FF: The PAF DRAGRACINGTEAM with rider Fredrik Fredlund have been going through the bike trying to locate an electrical problem that we have been struggling with the whole season. We hope that we now have figured it out and that is indeed an important factor for us to be able to preform well in the finals.

SG: - What do you hope for performancewise at the European Finals ?

FF: We know that we have a strong bike and we can put some strong numbers on the ET. We will definitly go for the win but you never know in this strong field of competitors.

SG: - Any major changes done to the car/bike since the last race?

FF: Nothing major, only regular service.

SG: - Which drivers/riders in your class do you consider the strongest competitors to win the event at Santa Pod ?

FF: Anyone can win this race! You can't count anyone out. At last we would like to thank our sponsors and our fans out there for supporting us! Best regards PAF Dragracing Team

JESPER THIEL - Pro Stock Bike, who is 5th in the UEM points standings and was low qualifier at Sunoco Drag Challenge at Gardermoen

SG: - How are you preparing for the European Finals ?

JT: We have gone thru the whole bike to make sure that it is all ready; this is my last chance to win an event this season so everything has to be perfect, and the motor got some new parts so it is fresh to make maximum power. This is the last race of the season and probably the best track condition, so now it’s time to push the motor to the limit.

SG: - What do you hope for performancewise at the European Finals ?

JT: My goal for the event is to qualify in the top 3, run low 7.1 ET and win the event.

SG: - Any major changes done to the car/bike since the last race?

PB: No.
JT: The bike is the same as last race, we did some update to the Racepak.

SG: - Which drivers/riders in your class do you consider the strongest competitors to win the event at Santa Pod ?

JT: I think the strongest competitors to win the event are Ulf Ögge, Anders Abrahamsson, Kenneth Vik and of course myself /J

PETER SVENSSON - Top Fuel Bike, European record holder, currently 4th in the rankings with a chance to advance. The below text is part of a full press release that can be read at Eurodragster.com. presented by Peter and Sören Svensson team Kendall Racing

- After the race at Gardermoen we have been checking all engine components carefully and everything was found OK, which means most certainly that we can add some additional power and some more clutch at this race, if we will get the right track conditions. Some of you might remember during the previous races that we have entered this season that we have hade some serious problems with our transmission belt when we have added some power and at this race we will try a new type of transmission belt, that broke both at Mantorp (snapped off) and at Gardermoen (rinsing all teeth of the belt) during the qualifications and hopefully this will solve the problem.

Depending on the overall conditions we will have to tune the bike for a bit colder weather than at our previous race in Gardermoen and with some luck and really good air (that usually appears at Santa Pod) we will hopefully get a bit closer to some new record setting runs.

ULF ÖGGE - Pro Stock Bike, most likely the new 2010 European Pro Stock Champion

SG: - How are you preparing for the European Finals ?

UÖ: All is ready..we are just waiting to leave !!!

SG: - What do you hope for performancewise at the European Finals?

UÖ: Our goal is a 6 sec. run - it would be a great end to the season.

SG: - Any major changes done to the car/bike since the last race?

UÖ: Maybe!

SG: - Which drivers/riders in your class do you consider the strongest competitors to win the event at Santa Pod ?

UÖ: We are 17 riders on the entry list, almost all have a good chance to be in the final on race sunday!!!!!

SG: - and some thoughts on the very likely championship win

UÖ: We look forward to the scrutineering and when that is finished the team shall enjoy an ice cold Coke in the bus ; )

SVEIN OLAV ROLFSTAD & JAN STURLA HEGRÉ - Super Twin Bike. Svein Olav is ranked 11th and Hegré 7th in the UEM Championship points standings questions answered by team manager Pål Magnussen

SG: - How are you preparing for the European Finals?

PM: Svein Olav and Jan Sturla will participate at a local event in Denmark the weekend before the finals and gather some confidence by good results there.

SG: - What do you hope for performancewise at the European Finals (like what low ET do you hope to set, what is your goal for the event)?

PM: Svein Olav`s goal is to get some good runs and hopefully to get some answers to all the problems we have experienced with the bike. This is very important for us since its the last race for the season and we dont want to take all the worries with us into the off-season. Jan Sturla got no worries and just want to do his best and maybe that will result in a fine overall standing in the UEM Championship.

SG: - Any major changes done to the car/bike since the last race?

PM: We have made some changes on the compresor at Svein Olav`s bike to see if that makes the bike rev a bit higher. No major changes on Jan Sturla Hegres bike.

SG: -Which drivers/riders in your class do you consider the strongest competitors to win the event at Santa Pod?

PM: It seems like Olstad, Heezen and Stäuble have what it takes this season, so hopefully it will be a race all to the end for the championship.

Svein-Olav Rolfstad

HANS-OLAV OLSTAD - Super Twin, who is 3rd in the championship points standings with a chance to become the champion.

HO: - In Hockenheim we found that the datalogger showed inproper exhaust temperature, so we checked spark plugs to get some evaluation. We have changed the exhaust temp. sensors and will test before the European Finals (in Mosten, Denmark which also attract many other super twin teams).

The championship is still an open matter in UEM super twin. It´s just 6 points between the top three drivers, so it´s impossible to tell who will be the champion. The only thing I can promise is we will do our outmost in the battle of the victory. I hope we will be able to finish the race completely and especially that the finals will not be rained off.

My toughest competitors in the championship battle and for the event win are Heezen and Stäuble and in addition Bengtsson for the event win.

GERT-JAN LASEUR- Pro Stock Bike, who is 6th in the championship (with a remote chance to advance)

GJL: After Hockenheim I had a bad feeling about the bike. The datalogger showed everything was good, but the numbers weren't so good and we slowed down almost 10 kph for the second run. In the third run there was no time slip and the logger showed even a slower speed. I took the engine out and the front rod was not good. We changed the crank and all the bearings. Also we found a crack in the gear on the crank and we are changing it.

We also did the heads and changed valve springs. We studied a lot on the clutch and the injection and hopefully we made some progress there. Also we changed some ratios in the gearbox and sprockets to make more rpms on the finish line and be faster between 100 and 300 meters. The 60 Ft was there, and the speed, but we lose it somewhere in between. The goal for every event is as always, we come to win, we don't mind losing, but in the end, we al want to lwin, nobody is coming to the finals and hoping for second or third place, at least, I am not.

Main thing for me is to leave the 7,3 numbers, and drive 7,2 or hopefully even faster.. In Pro-Stock bike everybody can be the winner, but it seems that Ögge is very fast and consistent this year. But what about Vik, Lyren, Abrahamsson, Fredlund, Thiel, Beck, Stavros and many more, they all go fast and faster!!! Time will tell..
