European Finals 2010

WINNERS UEM Classes

UEM Pro Stock Bike:
Ulf Ögge (SWE)

Outstanding team Ögge had already won the UEM championship points wise before the qualifications. But the way to the event win was no easy ride. Team Ögge mechanic Per-Ola Pettersson let us know that a defect (new) rear tyre got the team struggle big time with traction problems  during the qualifications (Ögge qualified 7th quickest). When realizing the problem must come down to the tyre and getting proof in form of a major improvement during the 1st elimination  round (then running on an old tyre), team Ögge was back on track. Only small changes were made throughout the eliminations and the bike responded accordingly. The event win was never really at threat after that, performance was at an incredibly consistent level throughout the eliminations. (7.17 sec / 7.14 / 7.14 and in the final 7.17). Great end to another strong season for team Ögge!

Super Twin Bike:
Martijn de Haas (NL)

Never count out an alternate before the last run is over!

Martijn de Haas found himself outside the 8 bike ladder, but got the chance to compete when team Zodiac with team owner super twin bike legend Ton Pels and with rider Roel Koedam broke and had to park the bike after the qualifications.

Martijn and crew were all sunshine after the final, happy and thankful for the win although he would have wished to run in the 6-sec range.

On his way to victory de Haas in the quarter finals outran 2009 champion Per Bengtsson, in the semi´s put Hans-Olav Olstad out from further competition (Olstad by that missed the shot at the champions title) and in the final new champion Lorenz Stäuble was in the other lane but shut off before staging, while de Haas in the other lane had his act together and did what he should.

What a great way for de Haas to end the season! Team de Haas ends in an overall 10th place in the UEM Championship 2010, having participated in 5 of the 6 rounds.

UEM Top Fuel Bike:
Peter Svensson (SWE)

Peter Svensson and team Billet Racing was quickest during qualifications and continued to perform strong all through the eliminations.

Peter says: - We ran 6.20 during qualifying, but had problems to get traction straight off the line. We  tried by taking off power and it helped. In addition the air also improved. During the quarter finals I also ran a personal best ET over the 1/8 mile  distance (4.0342 sec). We also worked with the clutch adjustments during the eliminations and for the finals we increased the nitro level by 1%. Just like some of the the top fuel dragsters we had some problems with extraordinary wear to the rear tyre.

Svensson ended 3rd in the UEM championship rankings.

Special achievement:

EUROPEAN RECORD

For the second event in a row Rikard Gustafsson set a new European record in the UEM funny bike cup category

The new European record ET was set to 6.577 sec. (backed with a 6.628 sec run)

Rikard is after and close to the Funny Bike world record and plan to continue the chase in 2011. Rikard ended runner-up in the funny bike cup after winner Christian Jäger. Congratulations to both team Jäger and team Gustafsson & RG Engineering!
