UEM Super Twin Bike Review
Lo on top of the championship, while de Haas enjoyed the race of his life

European Finals winner Martijn de Haas

Entering the European Finals Lorenz Stäuble was in the championship lead at 273 points, 2 points ahead of Heezen and 6 points ahead of Olstad. Per Bengtsson, the 2009 champion said before the race he thought it would be fun to see a first time champion take over his title, that would be Olstad or Heezen.

But it was Stäuble who took the lead during the qualifications with 6.61 sec/213.89 mph after three sessions, followed by Bengtsson 6.62 sec. and Olstad 6.74 sec.

Koedam broke before the eliminations

Martijn de Haas was 9th after qualifications, but got the chance to be in the ladder as an alternate for Roel Koedam, who had to park the bike after the qualifications.  Low qualifier Stäuble also had problems, but the crew´s efforts to replace a damaged crankshaft paid off. Fellow racer Ismo Mäenpää was the one who sorted a thankful Stäuble out with parts (Mäenpää outside the ladder after the qualifications)

Mäenpää helped out with parts

Some of the eliminition runs really provided 1st class performance and tight racing. One was the battle Hegré/Stäuble in the quarter finals where both set new personals best´s. 6.615 för Hegré and 6.477 sec. för Stäuble. Well done both!!

Trond Jostein Höiberget

Lo Stäuble on to to the semi´s to face Trond Jostein Höiberget who also provided spectators with a great show in his quarter finals against Kemppainen. Höiberget 7.100 sec. to Kemppainen´s 7.099 and Trond Jostein´s win was due to a quicker reacton time. 0.0019 was the difference over
the finish line!

Höiberget´s race weekend however ended in the quarter finals against Stäuble, but he at least advanced in the points standings from 6th to 4th. Well done team Höiberget!

Kemppainen lost to Höiberget

de Haas - European Finals winner!

Lorenz Stäuble & team Erbacher 2010 Super Twin Bike champions - well done!

Olstad to the semi´s

On the other side of the ladder no 2 and 3 in the championship faced each other already in the quarter finals. Hans Olav Olstad´s win over Job Heezen meant Olstad put a halt to Heezens championship title chances.  Olstad himself then lost the semi final to de Haas and with that stayed 2nd in the championship.

Job Heezen - 3rd in the championship

Lorenz Stäuble´s chances to end the season with a European Final win came to an end when Lo broke and had to shut off the bike before the final run. Bye run and win for de Haas, but the new Super Twin Bike champion is Lorenz Stäuble (by 28 points).

Lorenz Stäuble - the 2010 champ!

The event win for de Haas moved him from the 13th to the 10th position.

Per Bengtsson - the 2009 champion

Per Bengtsson, who has set his mind on running record fast rather than to win rounds this season, struggled with traction problems, smoked the tyre in the quarter finals and lost to de Haas. Per commented that he almost felt ashamed not be able to adjust to the track when it was in such great condition.

Tough season for Rolfstad

Svein Olav Rolfstad has had a pretty terrible season filled with technical problems. Rolfstad outside the ladder at this race, while his adept and team mate Jan Sturla Hegré was in. Jan Sturla has improved over the season to become one rider with the potential to win a race. At the European Finals his personal best of 6.615 sec. loss against Stäuble would probably have won him the round  with any other opponent in the other lane there and then.

Talented Jan Sturla Hegré

Hopefully Jan Sturla has many fine seasons ahead of him and future success to await if he continues the great work he and team Rolfstad has started.

Jan Sturla 7th in the final championship points standings having participated in 5 out of the 6 events (while team mate Rolfstad ended 12th).

The season 2010 have included a lot of great racing from the Super Twins..can hardly wait to see them all on track again. Well done all riders and crews - thank you for the entertainment 2010!
