King Ögge showed the way after sorting tyre
problem
Ulf Ögge - champion & winner Ulf Ögge, Sweden had won the championship after his bike passed the scrutineering ast Santa Pod. And although having back problems he could at least enjoy the race without the championship title pressure on his shoulders. A defect, new rear tyre played tricks with the bike during qualifications and Ögge stayed 7th quickest after the qualifications. After realizing and curing the problem for the eliminations team Ögge was back on track and performing on top level. Thiel no.1 qualifier but broke.. Jesper Thiel, who has been among the top performers this year, was not so surprisingly leading the field during qualifications with 7.275 closely followed by Abrahamsson and Svrachnos. Thiel´s bike unfortunately broke during qualifications and he had to leave walk over and watch the eliminations as a spectator. As did Kenneth Vik. Vik who was not involved in the championship battle for trophies this year, thought it not to be worth acquiring parts from fellow racers for the eliminations. Kenneth Vik - broke during the first qualifying run.. Svrachnos got to the semi-final Stavros Svrachnos is a reliable and consistent rider who this time managed to put both Weikum and Fredlund out of competition, before being outrun himself by Ögge in the semi-finals. Svrachnos ended 8th in the championship. "Gabbi" mastered a flat tyre.. Gabriella Nikolovska mastered a potentially very dangerous situation in grand style when the front tyre got damaged while "Gabbi" was running at full speed. Nikolovska wrestled the bike to a halt unharmed and did not realize until afterwards what she just had been through. Gabbi was taken out in first round by Dave Beck. It was the other way round at Gardermoen, so payback time for Beck. Gabbi ends 12th in the championship having missed the two first rounds of the championship. Ulf Ögge, Per-Ola Pettersson and Peter Jönsson are all part of a winning team! Gert-Jan Laseur has had no easy ride through the last races, struggling with technical problems. At Santa Pod he qualified 8th with 7.45 but improved performance into the 7.20´s during the eliminations. Laseur performed in the 7.20´s Laseur put Bishop out of competition during the first round, had a bye run in the quarter finals, but then was defeated by Kalle Lyrén in an incredibly tight and quick race 7.287 for Laseur compared to Lyréns 7.273 and with only 0.0199 difference over the finish line! Another tight was the one between Dave Beck and Lyrén in the quarter finals. Beck first from the startline ran 7.263 to Lyréns 7.253, where the latter took the win by 0.0046 sec. or 14.75 inches (!) Wow, is all I have to say and well done both of riders! Dave Beck - disappointed Beck was disappointed after the race that his new bike has not yet come down to the performance level he knows is within reach. The European record holder from 2009 ran a quickest of 7.26 sec which is nowhere near the ET:s he is looking for. Probably there is much more to come from Beck for the 2011 season. The season 2010 was good for a 9th position in the final points standings for Beck. Kalle Lyrén runner-up at Santa Pod Lyrén blasted towards a place in the final in a very confident and consistent way. In the first round he go to meet Laszlo Papp, who entered the European Finals for team Sovereign as a replacement for Zolthán Toth. Laszlo Papp - new in the class Papp´s first UEM championship round ever, a newcomer but not inexperienced as he normally rides in funny bike in Hungary. After Papp, Beck and Laseur got taken out of competition by Lyrén, who showed no mercy. In the final Kalle was first from the startline, but Ögge´s quicker ET left Lyrén 0.04 sec. behind over the finish line. Lyrén has had an impressive first season in the class with a steep learning curve and rapidly increasing performance level. The runner-up achievement at Santa Pod only confirms it. Lyrén 6th in the final championship points standings and no longer to be referred to as a rookie (not by me anyway..) Anders Abrahamson was defeated by Ögge in the quarter finals but ends 2nd in the championship! Well done Anders and congratulations also to Fredrik Fredlund who ended 3rd in the championship. |
