Exhaust Coating
Company founder Marco Maurischat gives us the story of Exhaust Coatings
I founded my company in 1984. Back then I started as a body repair and paint shop. In 1994 we saw the need for a powder coating company here in our area, so we bought our first oven and started this as a second division of the business. We now have two ovens, with complete production lines were we work mostly for the industrial market. We apply powder to heavy machine and forklift parts as well as thousands of small parts for a local lamp manufacturer. I thought for a long time about the Ceramic coatings offered in America and in 2005 I started our third division, named Exhaust-Coating.de. We saw thought it best to use this name to let people know that our ceramic coatings are not powder coated (people sometimes still think that, because of our company name - Pulverbeschichtung Nord). Our Ceramic is a liquid material, heated up in an oven after being applied to the surface. I’m fortunate to work with the American company NIC Industries, based in Oregon, for whom we are exclusive European distributor and trainer for all Cerakote Ceramic products. We apply our products exclusively in-house here in Germany, but we also train and certify companies all over Europe, helping them to work with our products successfully in their countries. Our Cerakote Ceramic division is divided into two sections. Beside our automotive ceramic coatings we are also very successful in the firearms market, where a special range of Cerakote ceramics is used for guns and other firearms. You can learn more about this at www.firearm-coating.com Things started slowly in the beginning. Back then people in Europe didn’t know much about Ceramic Coatings and it took us a while to show customers what Cerakote is all about. But then the orders started coming. Right now the Ceramic part is the most important thing that I’m working on for my company. We are deeply involved in the motorcycle market where we have expanded our in-house coating program to a few thousand systems every year. We are working for aftermarket companies, mostly for the Harley Davidson market, as well as for motorcycle dealers and private customers where we paint new and used exhaust systems. |
I have a very close relationship with NIC and their board and I can truly say that we are set to become the market leader over our competitors like HPC, Jet Hot and Tech Line Coatings because of our very good products and service. Companies like Vance & Hines, Edelbrock and Emby are only some of the well-known names that are using our products We offer three different types of ceramic coatings. External header coatings in different colours as well as polished Chromex. We also offer internal coatings for exhaust systems that provide the best thermal barrier. INH addition we can do thermal barrier coatings for piston chambers, combustion chambers, valve faces and piston domes, and dry Film Coatings for bearings, piston skirts. etc. For the motorcycle market the "cosmetic factor" is what people want most. Through our involvement in the Speedgroup contingency program we would like to show our customers more about the performance advantage our ceramics can bring to the user. When looking at the US drag racing and motorsports scene, Ceramics, Thermal Barrier and Dry Film Coatings have proved to have a very important part to play in all kinds of racing engines. Many Pro Stock teams out there are looking for an increase in horsepower and for this they are using our products. We do a lot of testing with our Pro Mod engine for NIC products, with many internal and external parts ceramic and dry film coated. I started drag racing back in 1992 with a Volkswagen Beetle running in ET Bracket. From 1996 - 99 I raced in Super Comp. with my first "all new Dragster". From 2000 to 2004 I raced very successfully in Comp. Eliminator with a blown 302 cui small block dragster. My first blown engine was built by my old friend Peter Schöfer and his brothers. I think I still hold a European record in BB/D that I set at Hockenheim in 2004 with a 7.04 second run. This was nearly a second under the index back then. This "blown background" is helping me a lot right now in tuning the Pro Mod engine. This is an exciting class that I’m in now and it will be more and more of a challenge to stay competitive with all the good teams in it ! If somebody had told me 10 years ago that one day I would race in the same class as some of my US racing heroes (and race against them), I would have told him that he was smoking funny things.... |
