Funny Car Review
Grödem and Kuutniemi
great funny car
ambassadors at Alastaro

With Andréasson and Leanders not running this season and some of the teams struggling with distance and travel costs to Finland, finally the entry list for the event consisted of just two drivers; Arvid Grödem and Jarmo Kuutniemi.

By chance these two are also the ones having new rides for this season. While Grödem tried his ex-Burnett car out at Santa Pod (with Jeff Burnett on site as consultant for that event), Kuutniemi managed to get his new US imported car home just weeks before the Alastaro event.

While Kuutniemi was quicker during qualifications at Alastaro with 5.935 sec, Grödem won the final on sunday with 5.936 sec.

Grödem´s strongest impression of his new car so far is that it is a smooth ride.  While tires shakes was a normal but non-desirable part of every run with the old car, it has not occured so far with the new one.

At Alastaro team Westside did not get one run where everything functioned 100%. The run they thought they really had it going, the blower belt came off.. so the perfect run for Arvid is still yet to come and being a bit rusty behind the wheel (his own words) our guess is he pretty much enjoyed adding some more runs to his CV at Alastaro.

Kuutniemi´s 5.93 during the first few runs seems promising for the coming event at Mantorp Park, Sweden. There Kuutniemi and Grödem will be joined by five more fellow competitors, among them Jürgen Nagel, the winner at the Main Event at Santa Pod in May.
