Nitro Nationals
Hot Nitro Nationals 2010

The weather couldn't have been better at the Nitro Nationals 2010, as the sun was shining all weekend from a clear blue sky. Some good and some bad things appeared, but nobody was hurt in those ugly accidents that happened. There were record settings in quite a few classes and of course we had a lot of fun.
Something different happen in the Erbacher pit at Thursday where chassis builder LG from ME Racing Service AB cut the Top Fuel dragster in two pieces. As Urs discovered back home that the chassis was damaged, he asked the company for help and LG said he could fix it at the track. Urs was very satisfied with the work that was done. And first run out he qualified #1, he also got the best Top speed of the event with 463.49 km/h.

Pro Mod driver Michael Gullqvist made the first 5 second pass ever in competition in Europe this weekend. 5.91/395.52 km/h made him the fastest Pro Mod driver in Europe. Also he got the second membership in the Pro Mod 5 Sec Club from Mats Eriksson who was the first member.

Another speed record was set by Anders Abrahamsson in Pro Stock Bike by 303.71 km/h. Well done! But the winner of the class was (as usual we have to say) Ulf Ögge. He seems to be a hard nut to crack. This was his third win of three races this season. VERY good.

In Top Fuel Risto Poutiainen had the lowest ET in the class for the weekend 4.118 sec. Amazing as he did a bad roll with his car on Friday vs. Stig Neergaard. The two dragsters hooked together by the chutes and rolled for quite a while after finish line. But both drivers could walk out of the cars with no injuries. At Saturday they both where at track hunting for points, after working all night getting cars in order again. Stig did unfortunately not qualify, but Risto did end up as RU. Amazing what these guys could manage after an incident like that. The final was an all Finnish story between Risto Poutiainen and Timo Lethimäki where Timo took the win.

The next one to make our heart beat extra was Hans Olav Olstad who ended up in the sandbox in first qualifying round. Luckily he wasn't hurt, but the bike had to be totally cleaned as there was sand everywhere, and after that he finished the weekend with a win in the class! Was he happy or was he happy?

At Saturday came the next heartbeat. Andy Robinson in Pro Mod, got on fire after ¾ of the track, his fire extinguishers did a good job, but not enough to prevent damage as fuel was leaking and the fire lit up again. No injuries, but the car was out of order.

- I got a spare body at home and the chassis is ok, the main problem is the electric system that is all melted down. We will try to be at Hockenheim, but definitive at the Finals, said Andy back in the pit.

In Pro Stock Michael Malmgren did a good job. He had the lowest ET and the best Top Speed this weekend, 6.76/329 km/h and took the winner´s cup of the event in Pro Stock.

Dave Wilson had the best ET and Top Speed in Top Methanol Dragster5.378/440.91 km/h for the event, but the two young Habermanm brothers was too hard to beat, again. Like in England the both brothers got to the final but this time Dennis had to give up the win to his brother Timo.

In Top Methanol Funny Car there was just two competitors present, Jarmo Kuutniemi and Arvid Grodem, where Grodem took the win.

A very happy guy was Petri Paljakka who just bought Ian Kings Top Fuel Bike and just like that did he's personal best at 6.668/347.25 which was the best ET and Top speed this weekend. The win of Nitro Nationals 2010 in Top Fuel Bike completed Paljakka´s weekend in a nice way.

Next FIA/UEM Championship event is the round in Sweden at Mantorp Park july 29th – august 1st
