Top Methanol Dragster - Review Round #2 2014
The methanol dragster teams got the hang of the resurfaced track at Alastaro pretty quick and pretty good..
It took only to round #2 of the qualifications until team Monty Bugeja from Malta lead by team owner Joe Carabott and the Mr Whippy sponsored dragster made their first 5.5 second run out of a few more to come. With 5.56 sec/410 km/h Monty was low qualifier and  kept the position throughout the four sessions of qualifications.

Polidano and the Kalanc dragster

Chris Polidano
and the Kalanc team, also from Malta set their best qualifying time during session #3. With 5.61 sec at 422km/h Chris was second quickest
leaving the two Swedes Jonny Lagg and Stefan Gunnarsson a bit behind at 5.78 and 5.81. The Maltese teams are just faster for the time being whether at Alastaro or any other track. What will be interesting is when they all come together with the Habermann brothers at Hockenheim, I can´t wait for that competition to begin...

Stefan Gunnarsson impresses and although he he has the best mentors there is in Peter Lantz and Krister Johansson, driving a methanol dragster is no easy task. Stefan looks very confident when entering the track and the team is a great addition to the class this season.

Mr Whippy Team Bugeja from Malta - winners at Alastaro!

In the eliminations it was to be a Maltese final after Polidano took out Gunnarsson in the semi final. Polidano´s ET of 5.58 was just too quick for the Swedes. Jonny Lagg gave Bugeja a great semi final race, but not much to do for Lagg this time. Bugejas 5.59 beats Lagg´s 5.78.

The all Maltese final was as tight as can be. Polidano left the startline ahead, but it was Bugeja first over the finish line. Great ET:s for both - Bugeja 5.53 at 422km, Polidano 5.58 at 429 km. This is as tight as it gets and the crowd on site at Alastaro got great value for the money and where the methanol dragster teams.

Leaving Alastaro Monty Bugeja has taken over the championship lead, with 127 points, while Polidano is second at 101 points. Still more than half of the championship left to run and an open matter what the ranking will look like finally - but for now advantage Bugeja & crew.
