Entering
the NitrOlympX we have Mattias Wulcan, Sweden at 139 points and in
2nd place Roger Johansson also from Sweden at 115. Tero Laukkanen,
Finland is in 3rd place with 86 points. Last year´s champion Micke
Gullqvist is currently number 5th. He lost the quarter finals in
Finland while Wulcan won the event and climbed in the ranking..
Since
the last round in Finland (july 4-6th), a few of the Swedish teams have
had very hectic schedules competing in the Swedish Championship: in
Sundsvall, Malmö and at Tierp Arena. Due to an incident in Malmö
hitting the barrier, Micke Gullqvist
and crew had to construct a new front part of the chassis in the
few days in between two events. They got it done just barely so
they could make the event at Tierp. The end to the story was however
happy and Gullqvist arrives at Hockenheim with the event win
from Tierp and an improved personal best ET of 5.839 which he set in
the final against Mats Eriksson.
Eriksson and crew assisted in the tuning by Adam Flamholc have
turned the negative trend which started at Santa Pod with hitting the
wall with damage to the car as result and missing out the event in
Finland. The 5.98 set at Tierp was the best imaginable gift
and hopefully the positive trend can last also through the
NitrOlympX.
Marc Meihuizen
from the Netherlands who was not in sync with the new surface at
Alastaro, did not qualify there, but will hopefully return to perform
good numbers at Hockenheim. Dutch Robert Joosten, was also in Finland, qualified by lost in the quarter finals. The third Dutch driver David Vegter missed out the event in Finland but is back in competition in Hockenheim.
Winner in in Finland was Mattias Wulcan, from Sweden and by that he took the championship lead.
At the Tierp Arena event at the end of July the teams struggled with
the transmission costning them one full day of qualifications. In the
eliminations Wulcan lost in the semi final.
Looking back..
Winner
of the 2013 NitrOlympX was Mattias Wulcan and runner-up Micke
Gullqvist. Low qualifier of the event was Micke Gullqvist at 5.97. Last
year with only 11 qualified cars, an 8 car field was run.
This
year with 14 cars on the entry list, if 13 or more qualify there will
be a 16 car ladder in effect. It means more points is at stake
compared with an 8 car ladder. Many drivers can gain from the points in
addition to the value of not risking being outside the ladder.
