The track crew from Santa Pod Raceway have worked alongside the German crew to prepare the Rico Anthes Quartermile track at HockenheimRing since the day after the Formula One race. It´s part of the TGE Europe staff sharing concept and it will guarantee a skilled track prep crew have worked the traction up to Championship standard in time for the NitrOlympX. The event kicks off with qualifications on Friday August 8th.
Rehearsal at Tierp Arena..
We enjoyed the first event under new management at the Championship track Tierp Arena in Sweden the last weekend in july, an event included in the EDRS European Drag Racing Series and Swedish Championship. The FIA Championship circus will arrive in August for the Turtle Wax Internationals (former Scandinavian Internationals) scheduled August 21-24th.
It was reassuring to see the event was run in the efficient way as in the past. The traction was up to standard and improved over the three days and on race day Sunday provided teams a chance to run at the highest level of performance. And some of the FIA teams who will be competing at Hockenheim sure did manage the rehearsal well..
Mats Eriksson (left) and Micke Gullqvist
In FIA Pro Modified Micke Gullqvist ran Europe´s quickest ET ever 5.83 sec in the final against Mats Eriksson. Eriksson showed the team is back on track after a few seasons stuggling. 5.98 sec in the semi-final and Mats & the Green Goblin team assisted by Adam Flamholc was thrilled! In the final against Gullqvist there was little to do. The European Champion from 2013 is still quickest, although not in championship lead at this time. Check out the Pro Modified class preview to find out more!
In Top Methanol Funny Car Johan Lindberg who had a previous personal best at 5.549/417,31 ran a brilliant 5,503 sec/424 km/h during test & tune.
Top Methanol Dragster driver Stefan Gunnarsson improved his personal best from 5.78 sec to 5.65 seconds and Pro Stock team R/T with Thomas Lindström behind the wheel ran 6.61 sec, which is only 2 hundreds of a second from a personal best.
Martin Petersson, mechanic and son of Pro Stock driver Magnus Petersson made his debut in the class "borrowing" dads Pro Stocker. But it´s Magnus who is on the entry list at the NitrOlympX.
