The real Stig finds consistency again
Stig Neergaard runs his own Top Fuel operation already for many years.
In the last few seasons the Dane had ups and downs, as he had as many surprising good numbers on the scoreboard as engine explosions. At the Main Event Neergaard was back to his old form and the John Smith tuned car was het most consistent of all Top Fuelers.

Stig Neergaard was a happy man at the Main Event. Gone were the problems of the last two seasons when the Danish Top Fuel racer and teamowner suffered some heavy engine explosions. “We are back to the old type of pistons we used until two years ago. When we changed that, the problems started and now everything is okay again. After the runs all parts look fine and we did not damage anything at all”, says the ever smiling ‘real’ Stig.

And it has to be said, Neergaard was the most consistent Top Fuel racer in his John Smith tuned car. After a 6.33 seconds first qualifying testrun, all other three runs were a 4.20, 4.23 and 4.33 seconds. That gave Neergaard the number two qualifying position. No traction problems and no mechanical failures. In eliminations the Dane won his first round in an even better 4.15 seconds and had another 4.23 in the semi-finals against Anita Mäkelä, but lost on a holeshot. When the Danish team can keep up with this good form, and why shouldn’t they, Neergaard can go rounds and even win races with this consistancy and be a major player in the title race.
