Marc Meihuizen smashes the 6-seconds barrier
When Marc Meihuizen entered the Pro Modified class a few years ago, he had one goal; to break the 6-seconds barrier and see that magic 5 on the time slip.
After many years of hard work and big investments, at the Main Event that dream came true! And because the MPM-driver does everything for 110% it was not a 5.99 but a 5.913 seconds!

Marc Meihuizen is less interested in racewins and championships. He wants to go fast, every run, again and again and give it a 110%. In the last few seasons the Dutchman was in the 6.0 seconds zone already many times, but too many times bad luck hit him and he could not make that last step into the 5-seconds. This season did not start that well too, as one week before the Main Event the J.W.R. Racing team was still waiting for the parts they ordered at the end of last year. With only a few days to go the parts were there and the crew had to work around the clock to rebuild the engine and even had to adjust some of the new delivered parts.

Without any testrun at all, qualifying started and after a 6.72 Meihuizen improved to 6.32 seconds. But Sunday was his day. In an arrow straight run Meihuizen’s ’68 Pontiac Firebird passed the finish line in a phenomenal 5.913 seconds and 242.51 mph. For Meihuizen the dream of breaking the 6-seconds barrier came true! Of course the MPM-driver was extremely happy, but when crewchief Joeri Woudenberg looked at the computer data, he confirmed what Meihuizen already felt during his record run, there was more to come from the J.W.R. Racing Pontiac.

Meihuizen: “The car was a far too short time in second gear and I had wheelspin in third gear until the finish line. And with only three runs on it, we are far from having the perfect set-up for the engine. By fine-tuning we can improve so many things. A low 5.8 seconds is really possible and can happen at the next race in Tierp. We go for it! This is a real team effort and a reward for many years of hard work. The crew worked all night long to give me a perfect car. This engine combination is absolutely great and the team did an excellent job in fine-tuning the chassis. The car goes arrow straight. All honours go to my fantastic crew.”

As Meihuizen could not back up his record run, it’s a personal best ‘only’ so far. But everybody will focus on the scoreboards again the next time Meihuizen and his MPM Firebird runs down the quartermile. Will the next step be the 5.8? At the Main Event Meihuizen’s race came to an early end as there was liquid under his car when he came back from the quarter finals burn out. But now that his first dream came true, there won’t be so many racers that can stop the Dutchman from winning his first ever Pro Mod race.
