Hockenheim - New Year, new track
Two of the FIA Championship tracks have undergone resurfacing for the 2013 season, Santa Pod Raceway (featured in a separate article) and HockenheimRing. The 28th NitrolympX is arranged August 9-11th and is part of the FIA and FIM Championhsips (cars and bikes) as well as having opened up for more classes  from the EDRS European Drag Racing Series. From Germany comes this first-hand report from Race Director Jerry Lackey.
On 4 April 2013 the road builders arrived at the Hockenheim Track and started their re paving of 1000 feet of the Hockenheimring Quarter mile.

The 1000 feet ends at the corner of the F1 surface as In all the years past and the rest 320 feet will be treated as in all the past
Years, as well as a additional 150 meters of braking area.

The work was completed on 11 April and seen above Klaus Schwenninger "Director of Logistics" Erich Schenkenberger "Chief Starter" And Jerry Lackey "Race Director" have a first look in the rain at the new surface.

A shot of the new dry surface starting at the, remaining, burnout area.

A glance at the surface and it is easy to see that the asphalt is a special asphalt with very few pores to fill with Track Bite and rubber.

The rubber buns for this machine have been specially manufactured  by a leading
Tire company in Germany and will be used to get the first many layers of rubber on the new surface.

We have just received 250 New Slicks from Hoosier  Racing Tires in Lackeville
Indiana, have ordered 20 barrels of VHT and have on hand 20 buckets of Gold Dust
As well as 15 buckets of track spot.

We are arranging for some top assistance and advice from two of the Best in Europe at treating Virgin Tracks, Darren Prentice and Ian Marshall who just recently did a amazing job of getting the new Virgin surface well prepared at the Santa Pod Race Track.

We will now wait several weeks before we start to treat the new surface and allow it to air out, which will make it better accept Track Bite and loads of rubber. We are lucky that there is no F1 event in 2013, which will give us plenty of time and good weather to get the track back to, or better than ever shape for top times and speeds.

We will as in the past be inviting the FIA and UEM Championship rounds back to Hockenheim  and will this year take, on a test basis, a round of most of the EDRS classes in the hopes that we can continue on in the future with the EDRS rounds.

We will also be taking a round of the newly formed Top Fuel Funny Car European
Challenge/Cup in the hopes of it growing into large fields of racers for the future.

We have rounded up loads of new shows for our Famous Nitro Night Show and
Hope to welcome the same Sold Out spectator numbers as in the past.

We expect to have all the required Entry Documentation, by the 20th of May ,on our Internet site  www.nitrolympx.com  "Racers Information".

All in All we can truthfully say that we have spared no cost or effort to regain or rise above our reputation, and we welcome all Drivers and Riders to return To one of the Best Venues in Europe.

Beside the championship racing, one of the most popular feature of the event is the display running of top fuel dragsters as part of the night show - here Micke Kågered in action.
