FHRA Finland - Season Preview
FHRA, the Finnish Hot Rod Association Association is a non-profit club, which is owned by its members.
With 2900 members and 60 member clubs FHRA is a strong organization and force to count with in Finland. It´s form of organization is also unique since FHRA work not only as an organizer, but work with all aspects of drag racing on a national level and interact with the drag racing community worldwide, not least through the well functioning "exchange of staff " system that has developed over the years. Key FHRA track staff members are for example a natural part of Tierp Arena´s event organization at the two championship events.

Beside arranging all drag racing events in Finland, since 1978 FHRA has also arranged the American Car Show, which has become one of the largest public fairs at the  Helsinki Exhibition & Convention Centre attracting 70. 000 visitors annually!

The show is of course a good opportunity to promote the drag racing events to the public.

The fact that world-famous Finnish ski jumping star Janne Ahonen stepped into Top Fuel drag racing some years back also meant a further boost of interest for the sport. Today, impressively around 50% of the teams in FIA Top Fuel Dragster are from Finland, including 2012 European champion Risto Poutiainenand Anita Mäkelä, the most succesful female driver in European drag racing through all times.

FHRA operate drag racing events on three different tracks;
Alastaro
Motopark
Kalajoki (northern Finland)

One event is included in the FIA European Drag Racing Championship and FIM Drag Bike Championship. The FHRA Nitro Nationals July 4-7th is run at the Alastaro track, conveniently  close to harbours and airports, only 45 min drive from Turku (Åbo).

The event which is appreciated by contestants and spectators, not least for the great atmosphere and (normally) nice summer weather. As a well established event FHRA Nitro Nationals attract a good number of spectators and it is also broadcasted on national Finnish television afterwards as well as sent live via web-TV.
