Vandel - New EDRS track in Denmark
The first Race at Vandel Raceway was held in 1997 and up until 2007 we raced there a least once a year..

The words are Holger Dueholm´s. Holger  is one of the persons most involved in  drag racing in Denmark and also one of the few veterans in Europe in the track preparation field.

Holger tells: - In 2006-07 we had two weather affected events, whitch resulted in financial disaster first for Dragracing Club Denmark and then for Streetfire, who was the promotor on the 2007 race. We have been recovering since then, and are now finally ready for a major Dragracing event in Denmark again.

Days of Thunder will be held in a corporation with Dragracing Club Denmark who will handle the running of the race. Dragracing Club Denmark is the oldest Dragracing club in Denmark, dating back to 1979.

Streetfire is the promotor on Days of Thunder. It is an event company which organizes two annual car shows in Denmark (Fast & Furious Car Show and Scandinavian Motor Show) Some of the persons behind Streetfire is Hans Jørgen Hitz, who has been organizing Mosten Race Day for 20 years, Lisbet Jørgensen, a formerly Pro Street driver, now employed at the Danish Motorsports Federation, and Holger Dueholm a formerly Harley Drags rider who has been involved in track prep on European Championship level for the last 12 years.

Vandel has always been the premier track in Denmark, as it is the only place where we are allowed to prep the track, says Holger.  It is a huge former Nato airfield with lots of space, so it is only your imagination that set the limits. This year in addition to the Dragracing activity, we will have a Drifting competition at the other end of the airfield, so there will be plenty of action for the spectators. We will also make an world record attempt in most cars making burnouts at the same time, more than 100 cars is expected to participate in the attempt. We will do whatever possible to make a good track for the teams.

Holger Dueholm, who has been part of the track prep crew at Mantorp Park for 10 years, and Tierp Arena from the start, will be in charge of the track prep.

Drag racing have been going downhill in Denmark the last few years, especially the car count has been down. The reason for this is that we have been racing at remote airfields where we cannot prep the track resulting in the “big” cars and bikes have not participated, says Holger.  However after we announced that we will be racing at Vandel again, we can feel the optimism in the Danish Dragracing community. Everybody is really happy that we are back at Vandel. We hope that both Danish and other European teams will support this event, so that Days of Thunder will continue in the years to come.

We are all looking forward to welcoming EDRS teams from all of Europe! finishes Holger.
