Wintergames by SHRA Sundsvall
On January 26th in temperatures around -10 degrees below zero the Wintergames was arranged by EDRS and Swedish Championship organiser SHRA Sundsvall. The event which focus on snow mobiles, has established itself quickly and attracted a good crowd and representation from all the snowmobile manufacturers.
During summer time the club SHRA Sundsvall which operate the fine arena Sundsvall Raceway hosts drag racing events included in EDRS European Drag Racing Series and the Swedish Championship. The club is very active  and has a good relation with the community of Sundsvall in many ways.

The very successful Wintergames attracted around 1.000 snowmobiles and 3.000 spectators in one day which says something about the capability of the club, not only to organise but to market the event in a good way.

The 201 meter snowmobile drag strip was well prepared with two different kinds of start carpets and many fast runs were performed during the day. The visitors could take part and test their snow mobiles at the drag strip where the timing equipment was in operation.

Fastest run of the the day was driver Torbjörn Olofsson with 6,54sec at 180km/h!

The snowmobile club Ruff Riders was on site to perform stunts. Home town rider Markus Nordin  was accompanied by Tobias Hellström from Umeå. Markus back flip stunt turned out to be a real crowd pleaser and it was the first time this particular stunt was performed at the Wintergames, but hopefully not the last..

A good crowd of around 3.000 visitors was attracred by the Wintergames concept, great work by SHRA Sundsvall to make a successful winter event, which we gather may mean some new visitors to the summer´s drag racing events as well!

Around 40 riders took the challenge to see what their machines had in them on the drag strip, while well-known and popular announcers Ulf Carlsson and Tord Lundgren entertained the crowd with their knowledge and fun stories.

Also the juniors could enjoy their active sharer of fun, testing mini snowmobiles in an organised way on a circuit track made for the purpose. The high interest among the youngsters indicate there should be no trouble over the coming years to get new and young people into the hobby (and maybe sport) of snowmobiles

Like the creative and innovative club they are SHRA Sundsvall had figured out that parts from outdated washing machines would make excellent constructions and provide sources of heating, which both amused and warmed the visitors at the same time. We gather there will be followers of this unusal but excellent idea!

unusual heating sources spread on site to warm the visitors

The local TV station TV4 with the program ”Motorbloggen” arrived by helicopter and visited the. The report from the event was sent on region television channels the days following the event, which indicate the organisers had made a great job in marketing the Wintergames and also show the interest for snowmobiles is huge in this part of Sweden.

We appreciate we got the chance to be part of the report from SHRA Sundsvall chairman Tommy Edström who also sent all exciting photos to illustrate this article. Impressive and interesting work by SHRA Sundsvall, which we think can be inspiring also for others.
