FIA Pro Stock - Magnus Petersson
A rookie in Pro Stock
After a great success at Hockenheim Ring during the Nitrolympx 2013, we had to ask Magnus Petersson about his story and team in the Pro Stock class. This is their first season in the class and they are in the fifth place in the European Championship!

Magnus started in street racing many years ago in an orange MG with a turbo, if someone remembers, and competed in Power Street Finals. Then the team continued with a small block engine and raced in Nordic Pro Street Cup. But then other things came between, so 1997 Magnus took a break to build up the family business and take care of the three sons Magnus and wife Marie-Louse had.

But after a while, about thirteen years later, the oldest son Martin Petersson, at the time 18 years old, wanted to get out on the track.

-    So we went to Denmark and bought a dragster, which would last for many years, we thought, tells Magnus. We restored that one and went in to the Super Comp class in 2010.

Both Magnus and Martin took their license and raced every second race. Then the guys wanted to step up a bit and a Ford Probe 2011 was bought from the Sagelv family and a step in to Competition was made.

This weekend we can all meet the Magnus Petersson Team at Sweden´s Tierp Arena again, where the son Martin is crew chief.

photo: Magnus Petersson from Nässjö Sweden is a rookie this year. It´s their first season in the Pro Stock but so far Magnus and team is doing very well. A fifth place in the series when the fifth race is coming up at Tierp Arena.

-    We started there with an ex pro stock engine in C/A and I ran a new European record at 7.36/302 and Martin wasn’t far behind at did 7.40/299, says Magnus. We went to the master in the Pro Stock class, Jimmy Ålund, to buy some slick, but ended up with a whole Pro Stock car instead.

Now suddenly we were in to the kings class Pro Stock! 2013 is our first year in the class and we’re doing the whole season. First run in the car was last autumn at Tierp Arena, so we don’t have much experience, but we see that as a challenge and we learn new things all the time.

In Hockenheim Magnus and team did really good results. After the first run they were qualified #2 at 6,80 sec/328 km/h after Jimmy Ålunds 6,69 sec/333 km/h.

But after the next three rounds they ended up as # 4 with a slightly better time, 6,79 sec. In the semis Magnus met Ålund who is hard to beat, but Magnus did a very good run and was just about thee hundreds of a second behind Jimmy, that’s not bad for a rookie. As cups are awarded also for second runner ups at Hockenheim, the team could hold their first European Champs series cup in their hand at the price giving ceremony. They ended up as number three in the competition.

-    Next season we’re planning to go for the whole Championship and of course to be in the top fight. There is nothing else than Pro Stock now, the coolest cars and engines, smiles Magnus.  We´re going to find some more sponsors so we can continue and give the guys in the top a real fight, it isn’t for free to do this so we need sponsors.

The team consist of Magnus wife Marie-Louise and Rebecca Knutson who manage the entire service except the car, like food, planning, service around the team and so on. Martin is Crew chief and takes care of the clutch. The younger sons Linus and Hugo helps with whatever they can and Martin Rask takes care of the rear-end of the car and where else where he is needed.  We look forward to see this team grow and wish them good luck in the next races and the upcoming seasons.

Magnus and crew did very well at Hockenheim. They ended up as number three right
after the big fighters Thomas Lindström and Jimmy Ålund.
