The sun always shines for Juergen ‘Schuby’ Schubert
“The sun is in my heart”, is Juergen Schubert’s slogan. Wherever you meet him and how bad the drag racing-weather might be, Juergen Schubert always has a big smile on his face and enjoys his time at the European dragstrips.

Ask for ‘Schuby’ and everybody will know you are looking for Juergen Schubert. Last four or five years the popular German hardly missed a race at Dragstrip Drachten, but is also a regular competitor at Santa Pod, Hockenheim, Tierp Arena and Malmö. For Juergen ‘Schuby’ Schubert this year’s EDRS European Drag Racing Series came at the right moment. This season the well-known blue and yellow Chevrolet Nova could already be seen at Tierp Arena, Malmö and Drachten. At the moment of publication Schubert is racing at Bechyne (Czech Republic) and can later be seen at Dragstrip Drachten (2x), Hockenheim and Malmö again.

Schubert started drag racing in 2007 with the same blue and yellow Chevrolet Nova. His ‘Squashed Banana’ team stepped up from Super Gas to Super Comp and is now in Super Pro ET. As located in Germany the EDRS Division South is his ‘home division’.

Apart from the EDRS Super Pro ET Series, ‘Schuby’ is also racing in the (German) Super Pro ET Challenge and the Dutch Open Super Pro ET Championship. The 2.5 inch chopped Nova was built in 1996, has a 421 cui Chevy engine, runs on gasoline and doesn’t use poweradders. Personal bests are 8.67 seconds and 264 km/h.

Schuby is always accompanied by his wife Anni Schubert and Steffi Müller. When you are at a race and Schuby is around, go to his pits and say hello. The sun will come out and even when it rains and there is no racing, you’ll feel much better again!

For results from the EDRS Drachten Nationals please check the separate race report in this edition.
