Talking with the organizer -  Tierp Arena

Tierp Arena has become Europe’s best dragracing track. From zero to hero in just no time. The drag racing world got an arena that many had been dreaming of for decades. Few did believe the rumors that said that there was something going on at the Tierp Airfield about two years ago. But now we’re already getting into the second season of racing at this great facility.

So how has it been going since last season? What has happened at the venue ? Speedgroup editor Lena Perés asked the people in charge..

Leif Andréasson

-    About the buildings, we have managed to get the entrance house ready, tells Leif Andréasson, Top Methanol Funny Car driver and the one who once came up with the whole idea of making the best arena in Europe for drag racing (and of course Leif is one of the owners too). We’re also working to get the interior of the start area building in shape, but it it’s going to take a while longer to get it the way we want.

Then, on the event schedule we can now count in a lot more than last year’s season. Of course we now open for the second round of the FIA/UEM championship the upcoming weekend, and that is an event that we are going to top with the fifth race of the Championship in end of August. But before that we have a lot to offer our visitors. The whole summer is booked up with lots of events.

And yes, after we had a look into the program of the 2012 summer we can tell that probably everyone with some kind of motorsport interest will be satisfied. Or what can you say about the TTA circuit racing which is getting into the arena in September. That’s great news for all people in racing!

Two other well-known key staff members at Tierp Arena - Race director Kjell Pettersson and Event Manager Emelie Carlswärd.

Lars-Erik Lindberg

-Yes, that’s the big news this season, say Lars-Erik Lindberg, who is the man who is in charge of the ground job at the arena and also one of the owners. We’re about to build a top of the line race track in short time and it’s going to be a 2.5 km long track that stretch in front of the grandstands and along the drag racing track and around the braking area. It’s going to be a whole new racing experience and just 120 km from Stockholm.

But before that happens we can sniff the Diesel Power Challenge, Celebrate the 4 of July, go to see the coolest air force at Tierp Arena Airshow, watch Drifting Challenge, Bug Run Classic and Euro Performance & Jap Show and a lot more.

The drag racing part of Tierp Arena is of course the main thing, still. But what is happening at the competition part. We ask the competition management at the arena.

Tomas Pettersson - one of the race directors

-    This year we got two FIA/UEM races in Sweden and both are held at Tierp Arena which is unique, says Tomas Pettersson, who is involved in organizing the competitions and among other things oversees that the staff is doing what they are supposed to. We are proud to have the opportunity to organize two races of this dignity. This is obviously because of the standards of this facility, but also due to  the fact that Mantorp Park is not arranging any Championship race this year. During the years of organizing drag racing in Sweden we have built up a great crew and we have the best of the best at Tierp Arena. We want every official to feel welcome and important so they can do a good job, and everyone is. A lot of time and effort has been spent to make the event a success for both racers and spectators and we look forward to new records and personals best from the competitive field.

So Tierp Arena is growing and this summer is going to be busy for everyone that has some kind of motorsport interest. So be aware of what’s happening here and be there! www.tierparena.com
