Top Fuel Bike Review
Main Event
First event of the year in the UEM Drag Bike Championship. A new regulation means funny bikes quicker than 6.99 sec. can compete in the Top Fuel Bike class and at Main Event the two funny bike riders in the field made a great addition to the class..
It was however Top Fuel Bike rider UK based Ian King who on paper should be the quickest and did live up to the expectations. No. 1 qualifier with 6.41 sec before Steve Woollatt 6.43.. Woollatt has shown to be conistent and quick on his home track, so also during qualifications this time.

Otte Knebl from the Czech Republic is a new comer in the class, he was out on track during the last event 2011 after having acquired a bike from King. At Main Event Knebl qualified 6th and last in the field after two attempts (where one full day of qualifications rained out).

Rene van den Berg from the Netherlands, skilled Top Fuel Bike rider managed  7.15 sec during qualifications, leaving him in the 4th spot.

The two funny bike riders entered at Main Event was Rikard Gustafsson and Nils Lagerlöf, both Sweden. Gustafsson has a personal best of 6.46 sec (set 2011) while Lagerlöf´s best of  6.74 sec was recently set at Tierp Arena in May.

The two contenders may well win rounds in the Top Fuel Bike class and aim to run the full championship 2012.
The eliminations proved that right as both Lagerlöf and Gustafsson managed to win
their quarter-finals.

Gustafsson by outrunning van den Berg. Gustafsson 6.56 sec to van den Bergs 7.56.

A Wollatt with problems could not stand against Lagerlöf. No brilliant ET:s from any of them in that heat but Lagerlöf walked away with the win.

Ian King and Otto Knebl up against each other in the quarter finals. Knebl was a no , and King on to the semi-final where a bye run waited.

The only question was if the final for King was going to be against Gustafsson or Lagerlöf. The two met in a nice semi-final where Gustafsson continued to impress running a fantastic 6.49 which was well ahead of Lagerlöfs 7.25. Gustafsson onto the final already during his first Top Fuel Bike race.. well done Rikard and crew!

The final Gustafsson vs King ended in Kings favour although none of the two riders did their best performance for the event. King 6.94/188 mph and Gustafsson 7.14 sec/173 mph. King took the light well ahead of Gustafsson and the win was confident. Next race for the both finalists are at Tierp Arena june 14-17th where they will face Europe´s quickest Top Fuel Bike team with Peter Svensson as the rider. Don´t miss to follow the action from that race!
