Race Report EDRS Nationals 2012
Tierp Arena May 12th-13th
First race out in the brand new EDRS European Drag Racing Series was held at Tierp arena last weekend. It was not the “Tierp-weather” we got used to last year, but cold and rainy to start with. Despite that, the track showed to be as good as it was last year, when the qualifications started Saturday after noon..
Pro Modified:
Division Central is the only division that will race the Pro Mod class in 2012, and all four races are run at Tierp Arena.  “Home track” –driver Johan Lindberg became No 1 qualifier with a 6.01 s.  run in front of Martin Lundqvist and Mikael Lindahl in the 14 car field. Reigning champion Micke Gullqvist struggled with a fuel leak and after that setup problems and did not manage to calm down the car enough to get the traction working. He lost the first round to Mattias Wulcan who has a new car for this season and later during test & tune managed to join the 5-sec club. Well done Mattias! On his way to the final Johan Lindberg first beat Johan “Lillis” Samuelsson and then had a bye-run. In the semi-final he was up against former Pro Stock Champion Niclas Andersson, which barely kept all four wheels on the ground after a furious slide-around. Both driver and car was OK after that scary ride. On the other side of the ladder Mats Eriksson defeated Bertan Olofsson,  Micke Lindahl and Fast Fred Fagerström until the final against Johan , where he was too fast and lit the red light on the tree and with that was out of competition. Lindberg Bros well deserved winners of the EDRS Nationals. Crew Chief Jonnie Lindberg said after the win that there had been no problems during the weekend but that they were testing a lot of new parts, which meant it was not obvious they could go on old setups and data, they struggled a bit to adjust to the track Johan as a confident driver did his job great and Jonnie and crew supplied a car fast enough to battle for the event win. Lindberg leads the Swedish Championship and EDRS Division Central after this round.

Competition Eliminator:
Not unusual, you can never tell what´s going to happen or not in the Comp. class. Seventeen cars this time , into the 32 all-in ladder.  Per Erik “Perka” Lindgren is doubling this year, also competeting in the Stock/Super Stock class. Not in time for the first round, shut off on the second, Perka took the last chance to qualify. And he did it well. First spot, before Kenneth Feldthusen and Stig Olsson.  Perkas doubling made it tough, since the organizer placed these two Swedish Championshipclasses after each other. No problem in the first round, when Perka took the advantage as No 1 qualifier and started last. But in the second round , only 9 pairs of cars was between his race cars. When his competitor, Jan Ericsson made his burnout, Perka was not even in the altered yet.  But he jumped in , was strapped , started up, made a short burnout, staged and won…  Next round was lost to Krister Adeen who didn’t show up in the bye run semifinal, makin the other sides semifinal the final instead.  Stig Olsson defeated Magnus Petersson there and Stig could wave to the audience all the way in his bye-run final. Veteran Olsson of course was content over the win and told he is planning to not travel a lot this season, mainly stay in Sweden and mostly run at Tierp. Well, what better start than leading the EDRS Division Central and the Swedish Championship in Comp Eliminator? Well done Stig!

Stock/Super Stock:
Largest class this weekend with 28 qualified cars. Håkan Nordström  first in the qualifying, but didn´t show up for the elimination, opening the road for Kjell Gisslars who made it all the way to the final on the top of the ladder. The other side gave No 22 qualifier, Anders Lindh who took out No 28 qualifier Daniel Williams in the final, Williams the only British contender on site among the many Swedish and Finnish. We wish Daniel and team welcome be back for more races in Sweden and Finland! Final winner Lindh was suprised over the win and said he has struggled for a few seasons and did not expect to finish this weekend as event winner and with that EDRS leader in Division Central. Well done, Anders!

Super Comp:
With 12 cars qualified, only 8 managed to get to the starting line in the first round, of various reasons.  German driver “Schuby” Schubert drove a 8,905 which made him top qualifier but he lost the first round to Niklas Öhlin who finally lost the final to last year´s rookie Robin Norén.  Robin (8,93) defeated veteran Micke Nilsson in the semifinal (8,89).

Super  Gas:
Fellows Olav Skjervö and Christer Uhlin took the first positions in the 11-car field in Super Gas. Both of them went out in the second round , loosing to the finalists Bosse Hall and Håkan “Strawhat” Mattson.  Noteable was that Super Gas rookie , Jan Hallman (former Super Street), pulled a 9,93 in the first round with a new set up  in the car and in a new class. “Strawhat” redlighting , giving Bosse Hall the win with 9,917 in the final.

Super Street:
Veterans Tomas Hägg and Halvor “Mr I-don´t –need –a-throttlestop” Överby  in the top of the 7-car field.  Tomas reached final through a bye-run and a win over Mauri Kamppinen. Halvor lost to Pro Stock crewchief Christer Gustafsson in the semifinal after beating Tony Åberg with a 10,905 in the first round.  Tomas champ of the week after beating Christer with a 10,98.

Jr Dragster:
Apart from Competition Eliminator and Stock/Super Stock also Pro Modified and Junior Dragster has a Swedish Championship running alongside the EDRS-series. 21 cars in the field this time, about 50% of them is fast 7-8 sec cars. Marcus Andersson No 1 qualifier with 0,000 reaction time. Remaining for the final was Liro Laaksonen and Kevin Yrjövaara.  Liro was the one that got the win this time, while Kevin walks out of the event as leader of the Swedish Junior Championship.

Super Comp Bike 8,5:
Five bikes contended the “new” class for this year.  Bert Nilsén top qualifier with 8,72. Alexander Jonsson beat Peter Svensson in the final. No break outs this time…

Super Gas Bike:
Just two bikes in this class. Matchraces was held between Kristo Korpela and Tomas Jonsson and it ended with 1-2 in Tomas favour.
