Stig O Transmissions - Contingency Partner EDRS 2012
Stig Olsson is one of Swedens most successful Competitons Eliminator drivers and now he has taken a further step with his company Stig O Transmissions. He’s now one of EDRS Contingency Program Partner.
Brief facts:
Stig O will be active in the EDRS European Drag Racinfg Series contingency program and work with the classes  Comp Eliminator, Stock Super Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Pro ET and Super Pro ET

Stig O Transmissions was started in 2010,  but the knowledge goes back to the middle 1980´s when Stig started as mechanic in team Rune Grönlund, who raced with a Power Glide transmission and actually won the Swedish Championship that year. At the time Stig was running a garage where he was repairing and restored American cars. And he had heard a lot about this transmission. He had been working with other kinds before, but started now to work with this brand. And also he used it in his own dragster.

-    I have always been curious to find out how things work and it was so with this transmission too. I started to test and tune in my own dragster before I started to help others. And it did work out very well, so well that I started to build and work with this kind of transmission more or less professional. But after some years I had a break from the racing and started up another business with bicycles. In 2006 I started up the racing again and it surprised me how many that remembered me and still had the transmissions that they bought from me a long time ago.

The racing started many years before this and a funny story Stig tells is when he first started racing.
-    1977 I bought Krister Johanssons dragster Turn Key for just 15 000 SEK ($2500), which is a price to think about in these days, says Stig.

When he did the comeback he realized that it was hard to find parts for power glide transmissions. He had good connections with American companies, so at 2010 he started to make a depot to serve racers all over northern Europe. He then also got contracted to a few companies in US.
-    Since then the sale has just exploded, says Stig. And it still growing so it´s a very positive development with the spare parts for my company. There have also been requests for bigger and stronger transmissions, like for cars over 2000 hp.

If any racer have questions or need parts or anything else Stig always bring a little bit of his store with him at the racetracks. So don’t hesitate to make a visit in his pit area.

-    I always try to answer any question in this matter and try to help out with parts, he says. I´m not more far away than a phone call. Or visit my website www.stigo.nu to have a look at the store.

What Stig doesn’t know about this, nobody else knows. He has a long experience of Power glide and has learned the hard way, to test on his own car before letting anyone else do mistakes. And that’s what’s happening this season when it comes to his own racing.

-    This year is going to be a kind of a middle year for me, Stig tells us. I’m testing a new engine in my car now and I´m also taking in a new transmission, Pro Flight, that I´m testing as well. I hope that’s going to get me another part to lean on in the business. So I´m not running any series this year. Just going to Tierp races to test and tune the car. Of course I have parts for sale if anyone needs.

I will also do tests with a Super Light low Drag transmission made for Competition and Stock SuperStock this season.

Is there any advice or problems you can see during your experience of the power glide transmissions over the year?
-    Some racers are not precise enough when they adjust the gear stick. It’s very important that it gets mounted and set the right way. Or else they get problems. I have also seen there´s a limit of what heat a converter and oil can resist. This is an unnecessary problem that can be avoided.

-    At last I´m very happy to be in the contingency program, says Stig. It’s a good thing and it works very well over in US and I hope it going to grow over here as well. I´m very happy to help in this project.  Finally we wish Stig the best of luck with all his testing’s this year and congratulations of his Runner Up position in the Swedish Championship 2011!
