“I received an error message or messages when downloading a runfile from a V-Net data recorder”

When a new V-Net module and sensor is connected to a Racepak V-Net data recorder, the V-Net module must be “read” (added) to the data logger configuration file, before the data can be downloaded and graphed.

For example, suppose your data system arrived from Racepak programmed for a V-Net Oil Pressure, Water Temperature and Fuel Pressure sensor arrangement, along with the standard Engine RPM, Driveshaft RPM, Battery Voltage and G meters.

Now, suppose you add a V-Net Pan Vacuum and two V-Net Air Fuel sensors, to your data system. If you simply plug the V-Net modules into the existing data system, at that point the modules would begin collecting data, when the system is powered up. The problem arises when attempting to download data.

The data logger configuration file within the PC used for downloading data, does not “know” the new sensors have been added. So, when the download process begins, an error message will be received for each new sensor that has not be added to the configuration file, such as below:

To solve the problem, simple select OK for each error message, and at the completion of the download, connect your PC to the data logger via the Racepak programming cable, open the configuration file and select EDIT / READ from the main menu. This action will update the configuration file with the new V-Net sensors, allowing you to then repeat the download process and obtain the data from the new sensors.
