Swedens Bilsport Performance & Custom Motor Show 2012
As usual the BILSPORT Performance & Custom Motor Show was well
visited during the Easter weekend. This year was a bit extraordinary as
the BILSPORT magazine celebrate 50 years. So this show was a bit of a
journey from the start 1962 until today.
On
Saturday, which use to be the most crowded day of them all, about
30.000 spectators was trying to have a peek at all the goodies that was
presented at the Elmia fairgrounds in Jönköping in the south of Sweden.
In total there were about 72.000 visitors during the weekend, plus
about 5.000 extra who showed up for the outside activities. And there
was a lot of news for the upcoming racing season, of course.
Tierp Arena was exhibiting a new genre that going to be very exciting at the arena. TTA, the new elite series in circuit racing is taking place in front of the huge grandstand in September, on top of all drag racing events that this year is counted to five! Take a look at www.tierparena.com to get the calendar of all events. A lot is happening at Tierp Arena during this season. Also we can expect some interesting news at the drag racing tracks around Europe this year. And a few Swedish new championship drivers were present at the show during Easter! The former Comp Eliminator driver Christian Sagelv and father Rolf is now going for a full tour of the FIA series in a new class and a new car. Well, they tried the Pro Stock Ford with the 500 cc Ford engine a bit last year, with a success. They were the first to run a 6 sec run in Europe with a Ford engine. The whole concept is built on a clean Ford cooperation from top to engine. A detail on the car is the wheelie bar. Take a closer look and you can see that it’s not centered. The team is trying the idea to compensate the torque of the engine and get more traction that way. Speedgroup´s Aila Striem and Åsa Kinnemar met with with Lars-Erik Lindberg, Tierp Arena Ronny Olsson is project leader for the EDRS Event at the Hultsfred Airfield, Sweden. The agreement was signed on site at Elmia by Åsa Kinnemar and Ronny Not new, but dedicated.. Top Fuel Dragster pilot Patrik Pers puts a lots of effort into racing. At the Show he displaye dthe dragster together with his Speedghost team and promoted his sponsors among others Rockstar, 76 Oils and Persåkers Speedshop |
Johan and Jonnie Lindberg More news is that the Lindberg Bros. team now is extended with another car. Crew chief and brother Jonnie is this season getting seated in a Top Methanol Funny Car. The license is hopefully going to be set at EDRS Nationals in May at Tierp Arena. Then the old guys in the class have to be careful, this youngster is not to play with. Brother Johan is still driving his Pro Mod car, but new for the season is that the brothers have created a new paint scheme for both race cars and the transporters. A very nice and good looking team. So now they go out in Europe with their new logo and new colors and a new car in the luggage. We wish this entire young guy’s operation good luck at the tracks this summer! Pro Mod drivers Fredde Fagerström and Micke Gullqvist were both at the show - Fredde with and Micke without race car Another oldie was “Fast Freddie” Fagerström that had a just fabulous booth at the show. The setting was just like an old shed, and there was a brilliant thought behind that. He has now got a new paint scheme at the fastest Pick Up at the European tracks. And the famous Ray Hill has made the paint and it´s is really something very special. It’s told that Ray got into a serious chemist education for a week before he started to paint. The car looks like it has been stored away for like 60 years in an old shed. It is just too crazy to describe in words. You have to take a closer look at this one in the pit area this summer. This should have been was the winning paint of the show this year, but the jury had to pick a shiny paint scheme, not something that looked like an old rusty car from a junkyard. Anyway there were more vehicles in Fagerstöm´s booth. The new tow car is a hot rod that matches the racecar, of course. I am guessing, this is going to be one of the roughest appearing teams in the pit area this year. The hottest guy at the show I guess was Chip Foose. He did a visit at the show two years ago also and he really likes it over here. He was signing his posters all weekend long and the queues were a never ending story. So I guess he had a sour hand when the show closed on Monday evening. Henrik Modig performed interviews for web-TV live in the Motorsoffan stand Lelle Olsson and Henrik Modig at www.nitroz.se were working hard all weekend as well. In their booth they held the website updated with interviews of all kind of interesting persons from the show. Overall, as usual, a very nice and hot show for all vehicles interested people. The BILSPORT Performance & Custom Motor Show is THE show to visit if you have the interest in what’s new, hot and cool of all kind in this genre.
