EDRS Driver in the Spotlight:
Marcus Back-Andersson
Marcus working his way to be a pro
It’s a whole week of drag racing at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tennessee where Marcus was about to compete with 619 other junior dragsters.

-    It all start with the Mike Bos Chassis Craft the first weekend, tells Björn Andersson, dad of Marcus. Then Monday is a Shout Out competition and Tuesday is a Fun Day race day. Then starts the Finals at Wednesday. So its four different races during the week.

This trip started off with an order, which was made earlier this year, of a new Super Comp dragster from Mike Bos Chassis Craft. Marcus is now doing his last season in the junior and next spring he will sit in a brand new Super Comp dragster. So the first stop on the trip was of course at the factory of dragsters for to try out the Super Comp dragster and also to do the last adjusting’s at the junior dragster that he was going to borrow from Mike Bos. The company builds about 60 junior dragsters, super comp and altered per year. This was on Friday the 18 of July.
-    We were a bit nervous how Marcus would handle the heat with the suit on, but he was just fine, tells mum Maya Back. The only thing he was a bit upset about was that the company handed their own mechanic so he wasn’t aloud to work on the car himself.
The dragster didn’t go as fast as they thought from the start, but it did 8.20 which were just ok. The contestants were divided in times as 7.90, 8.90, 9.90 and 12.90 first race day. Then after the first weekend they were classed in to how old they were.

-    Marcus was in the 15 year class, tells Anna Maya. And they were about 80 and most of them did drive 7.90 times, so it was a tuff field. It was long days, as the race started at nine in the morning and was going on until eight or even ten pm. One pair per minute and a few minute more between the classes. No spoiling time here.
Two races per class and day, during five days, then the eliminations started on Friday. No ladder was possibly to make, as there was so many racers so a goy was standing at the start line, pointing out the pair that was up to start line. Marcus was on from 80 to 40 and also next round and even down where 20 were left. But in Saturday’s eliminations from 20 to 10 he was out. But as a nice gesture he and all juniors got a plaqet as they got thru to the final day.  Marcus did a great job!

At Sunday it was fun day. All clubs was racing towards each other and the grandstands and tow cars was decorated and even some drivers and team members did dressed up.

The grandstand was huge. And at the last race day it was decorated as the car and the drivers was.

Marcus also was the winner at the Santa Pod European Finals 2012!

-    We are very satisfied with the trip, says Marcus, and I would very much like to go back and race there again.

Then he came back and did some racing in Sweden again in the Swedish Championship and EDRS, where his position now before the final race at Tierp Arena is no 5 respective 11. But he wanted to do more racing before the season was over, so father and son decided to take off for England and Santa Pod with the junior dragster.

But the weekend before that they went to the Swedish racetrack Kjula for some racing and unfortunately they blew the engine there.

-    Something that never has happened before, say dad Björn.  So we had to bring the old slower engine to England. But we brought the crashed engine and repaired it there. But as the old engine was so stable we didn’t want to make any changes. Marcus even went on the perfect dial in at the semi. And then he won the whole race! What a great feeling! It was a great weekend with good weather and great racing all the way. We did 14 rounds totally and six on Thursday! We also sold the car over there to an English team. But we had to bring it back as Marcus now is going for the last race at Tierp Arena at the end of the month.

A great season for the young Marcus Back Andersson, who´s now also has started the high school racing education at Tierp.

-    It’s just great here, and I like it a lot, say Marcus. But I´m looking forward to get my new Super Comp dragster to Sweden so I can try it out. So I hope the winter runs fast so the next season can start.

We which Marcus and his family all the best and good luck the rest of this season!

Marcus is cool. What an opportunity to race in US.

Everyone had their own golf car and so off course did the Back- Andersson family.
