FIA Top Methanol Dragster Review
Scandinavian Internationals
The Scandinavian Internationals provided steady high class performance from the Methanol Dragster class. Although there was no record set, a few of the teams on site impressed the crowd greatly. And for one of them the event finished a long and successful career..

Sweden´s Krister Johansson did his last event in Sweden after deciding to retire from a long and successful drag racing career. Here with one of his  long time mechanic Motas. Krister will be missed but can hopefully enjoy the racing as a spectator or sharing his skills in some way also the forthcoming seasons. Johansson´s last appearance on track will be during the European Finals at Santa Pod.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Monty Bugeja and the Mr Whippy team  from Malta proved why they are in the top of the championship rankings. Bugeja low qualifier with an impressive 5.33 sec. He was followed by two of the German drivers,  Dennis Haberman (5.35) and Peter Schöfer (5.39). Impressive to see that the slowest ET during qualifications was at 5.58 sThe 2012 European Champion in Top Methanol Dragster will most likely be from Malta. Monty Bugeja leads the championship at 364 points. The 2nd and 3rd rankings are still wide open with Dennis Haberman at 287 and Dave Wilson at 282 points. Timo Habermann in 4th place also has a good chance to end of the podium. He currently has earned 275 points.ec (Chris Polidano). They are not the class with the most teams but they sure know how to provide a very high level of performance!

ELIMINATIONS:

As the 8 car ladder had one vacant spot, no 1 qualifier Bugeja enjoyed a planned bye run in the first round and it qualified him for the semi-final.

Krister Johansson uncharacteristically got beaten on the tree during the first round of eliminations against Timo Habermann. Johanssons quicker ET 5.43 against 5.53 for Habermann did not do the job and it was by an estimated 11 cm that Habermann took the win! Johansson was cheered by the crowd and interviewed about his decision to end the career by the announcers before returning to the pits.

On the other side of the ladder Peter Schöfer proved he is still a force to count with to win rounds. 5.50 for Schöfer took out Dave Wilson from further competition (Wilson ran 5.61). Dennis Habermann was up against  the other Maltese driver Chris Polidano while Polidano did not run record quick (5.97 sec) Dennis run was filled with tire shake and some pedaling. Unfortunately no time to catch up and the run was lost to Polidano.

In the semi-final it was Polidanos turn to be  defeated when Peter Schöfer took a clean win (5.45 to Polidanos 5.63)

Manty Bugeja on the other side of the ladder was up against Timo Habermann, who despite running close in ET had pulled a red-light and the game was over for this time for Timo.

The final Bugeja / Schöfer would have been one of the most interesting this season we are sure, but a rain shower put an end to the event just before the finals.
