It was with great pleasure the EDRS work group during the late autumn
2011, took on the task to start discussions with the organizers SHRA
Sundsvall which operate the Sundsvall Raceway, to become part of
the new EDRS European Drag Racing Series. Speedgroup co-ordinator Åsa
Kinnemar tells that among the first things she and collgegue Janne
Sjöberg learnt when meeting with the class associations and sportsman
teams, was that Sundsvall Raceway was a track they wished to run at
(and at that time and for some year it was not included in the former
NDRS Series). Åsa tells that the discussions from day one have been
very positive and that chairman Tommy Edström and the board have made
the active choice to support the EDRS Series which is and will be
of benefit to the series drag racing in north Scandinavia. The
strategic position of this track means it is important for now and they
years to come and the venue itself is a fine sportsman track with great
potential. For the NHK Nats 200 teams (mostly from Sweden and Norway)
was on site to compete, where a number of EDRS teams had never been to
Sundsvall Raceway before (including part of the Speedgroup staff on
site). Editor Carl-Erik Kihlman provide this report from the event;
The last years there have been some struggling with
traction, compared
with the early years. So, before to this race, the organizers decided
to make some really big
efforts to start from scratch, removing all the old rubber on the first
part of the track. A decision which we are sure was right in the long
run but short-term for this event made it very hard to
provide new traction, leaving it to be a difficult work for the
teams to find
a good set-up. Some of the teams succeded and did not really have
a problem at all, but teams with the more powerful machines did
not manage to perform at their best level. Despite the shining
sun that spoilt us during the race, the outside temperature was fading
from hot to cold, which
also made it tricky. But, which is rare this summer, the
race was finished in all classes and the organizers did all that was in
their power to do under the difficult circumstances.
Brief Race Report:
Competition Eliminator:
Consisting
12 drivers, with Per Erik Lindgren as top qualifier before Krister
Adeen and Emil Eriksson. “Perka” and Emil ended up in the finals
, where the hard-working Per Erik was the final winner after Emil had
seen the red light in his face.
Per Erik in top of the Division Central and Daniel Jedborn in Divison North before the Kubbe and Gardermoen events.
Stock/Super Stock:
17
cars qualified, making the “smallest” possible 32-carladder. Uffe
Edwardsson before Bengt Ljungdahl in the qualifying list. Uffe lost to
Tomas “Puh” Westberg in the 2nd round, Bengt to Per Erik Lindgren (yes
, he was driving the Chevelle Station Wagon as well this weekend).
“Puh” winning the final , which was also gaining him points in the
Swedish Championship.
Tarmo Mikkola still in the lead in Division
Central , chased by Uffe Edwardsson with one race less. Janne Ullberg
in top of Divison North.
Super Comp:
50%
of the Super Comp field consisted of young girls, all of them as
former Jr Dragster-pilots. They occupied five out of the top six place
this weekend, with “veteran” Kristina Hägglund first with 8,903
down to 8,9148 for Victoria Paulssons sixth place. Amazing!!! Two
“boys” in the final, though. Last year rookie Robin Norén defeating
Mikael Nilsson who was BO-ing. Robin chasing Mikael for the top
position in Div. Central. Rebecca Karlstedt leading Div. North in front
of Trond Wanvik.
