Leif Andréasson-Top Methanol
Funny Car
Racer and promoter
The Sweden Internationals,
Tierp Arena’s first major international race, was a great success. Racing
was great and the teams, fans and media were happy with the NHRA-style
facility that brings European drag racing to the next level. So on Sunday
evening the two major promoters and driving forces behind Tierp Arena,
Lars-Erik Lindberg and Leif Andreasson, were happy
men.
For Leif Andreasson it was an extremely busy weekend. As a promoter he had to arrange numerous things, talk to the press, companies and business partners, but also had to race his Top Methanol Funny Car in the FIA European Championship – a difficult combination. “It’s not the ideal situation but I’m a racer and I want to race, especially at this track. I could not pay so much attention to the car but the crew did a great job. I got some problems in the semi-finals but I’m happy to get that far and be running good numbers,” admits Andreasson. Together with Lars-Erik Lindberg, he looked back at a successful event. “We are both involved in race teams and wanted to build a track that we as racers would like to have. Well, that’s Tierp Arena. I talked to many teams, companies and VIP’s and they were happy so I think everybody involved did a great job. I’m happy it’s a success but not surprised, because I only start something when I’m sure I can make it a success.” |
Andréasson with Lars-Erik Lindberg But Tierp Arena is not finished yet. “On Saturday morning,” explains Lars-Erik Lindberg, “so many people wanted to get in, it took too long and there were traffic jams outside the gates. So we have to do something about the infrastructure. And of course we shall finish the start and VIP tower and other buildings. But we’ll slow down a bit. 70 to 80 of my employees have been working here and I need them on other projects. But within two years we want to have all the other planned projects at Tierp ready too, like the go-kart track, rallycross track, horse show jumping arena, etc..” Next year when the European racers come back, Tierp Arena will look different again. |
