Main Event 2011
No.1 qualifiers
UEM Classes UEM Pro Stock Bike: Jesper Thiel (Denmark) Best ET: 7.251 sec. Speed: 174.39 mph / 280.59 km/h Team Sovereign rider Jesper Thiel tells they had changed engine since the season opener event in Hungary. Thiel set the low qualifier ET in the 2nd round of qualifications and commented that the first attempt out on the Santa Pod track was too aggressive - too much power, too much clutch. The 60-foot time during the 7.25 pass showed a 1.09 sec and Thiel felt confident they had the right setup for the first round of eliminations. We gather the new concrete track in Tierp will call for new adjustments, but so far team Sovereign and Jesper Thiel have showed thay can manage any circumstances at any track. Thiel is in championship points lead by 26 points with Kalle Lyrén, Sweden in second place. Super Twin Bike: Christian Jäger (Germany) Best ET: 6.640 sec. Speed: 206 mph / 331 km/h Great start this season for Christian Jäger, who does his first year in the class after years in the UEM funny bike cup. Christian says he feels comfortable riding the bike already. He stresses that the crew´s precision work with the bike can´t be pointed out enough. The team is still on a learning curve but are not afraid to push hard every run and so far they have done it well. During the qualifications at Santa Pod Christian says the team did no major setup changes in between runs. The bike enjoyed an extensive service for the first round of eliminations and stays race ready for the Sweden Internationals at Tierp where qualifications start on friday june 10th. Team Jäger do the full UEM championship 2011 and some fellow riders in the class already mention Christian as a strong European Champion candidate. In the UEM Championship point standings, Jäger is currently 3rd, while Hungary winner Jan Sturla Hegré, Norway leads by 36 points |
UEM Top Fuel Bike: Steve Woollatt (UK) Best ET: 6.410 sec Speed: 207.05 mph / 333.14 km/h It came as no surprise that UK based rider showed form that was enough to earn him and the crew the no.1 position after 4 qualification runs. About the qualifications at Santa Pod Steve said the wind was a problem during the first session, the gearbox broke during qualification session 2, but after that they had two consistent runs at 6.41 sec and 6.43 sec. Woollatt produced good numbers at the same track during the non championship event at Easter in april running 6.30 sec. With a personal pest of 6.26 sec set at the European Finals 2010 also at Santa Pod, that is where he aims to get back to and then keep it at that level. Team Woollatt do not run the full championship and will miss out the next round in Sweden. They are looking to attend the NitrOlympx in Hockenheim, Germany in august and of course be back at Santa Pod for the European Finals in september. Woollatt was a winner at Santa Pod 2010 and no doubt he can do it again. As for the championship points standings Woollatt is 2nd at the moment, while Ian King also from the UK is in the lead. |
