Top Methanol Funny Car Review FHRA Nitro Nationals
In Top Methanol Funny Car 8 cars filled the same sized field elimination ladder. Everybody of some importance for the class was there. What had attracted interest before the event was the fact that 2010 champion Dan Larsen had teamed up with rookie Mikael Larsson from Sweden. The talk of the class afterwards should prove to be something completely different..

Friday:
Top Methanol Funny Car was eventful, during the first day of qualifications with Arvid Grødem staging in the wrong lane and Jonas Staflund unable to start in time thanks to getting 2 of the plug leads mixed up when they put the car back together. He has yet to record a time. Ulf Leanders ran a respectable 5.773/400.66 for number one,  Grødem a 5.861/394.75. for 2nd and local hero Japa Kuutniemi is number 3 with a 5.914/393.2 One session rained out friday.

Saturday:
During the second day of qualifications Arvid Grødem managed to find the left lane and didn't improve. Jonas Staflund managed a 6.191/362.55 and accidentally set off his fire bottles just after the finish line. Low qualifier Ulf Leanders had some shake, got out of the groove and couldn't improve, neither could Kuutniemi, who had too much wheelspin off the line.

Sunday:
The four car TMFC eliminations started with Ulf Leanders running 5.773/400.66 against Jonas Staflund, who got loose at mid track and took the long way round, finishing with 6.191/362.55. Jarmo Kuutniemi had a very close race with Arvid Grødem. Jarmo's faster 5.820+0.096 RT just lost out to a 5.857+0.045RT from Arvid, who claimed his place in the final.

Winner Ulf Leanders still in the car was caught by the tv-crew for a comment after the win

Staflund was in good mood before the qualifications. No new win for Staflund at Alastaro, but great to see he is back in championship competition after a long period away from it.

Although the Norwegian are improving steadily it was always going to be a big ask to beat European record holder Leanders and it was not to be.  Grødem had the better reaction time and 60' time but pushed a little too hard and got loose at mid track, recording a 6.047/385.52, while Leanders ran straight and true to a 5.710/398.57 for the trophy.

With this win the point standings show Leanders and Grödem both have 169 points and are in the lead while Staflund is 3rd at 128 points.
