Top Methanol Dragster Review FHRANitro Nationals
As the season progresses the battle for the event wins and championship lead in Top Methanol Dragster have come to stand between two teams representing two nations and two generations..

Hanssen & team took a well deserved win at Alastaro

Qualifications day 1: The TM Dragsters have only managed 3 cars into the ladder so far, with Fred Hanssen continuing his form from Tierp with what Will Hanna described as an 'ugly' 5,469/424.87 and Timo Habermann in 2nd on 5.563/413.24. His brother Dennis stopped the clocks with a 5.629/415.25. Dave Wilson was shut down again for a very small fuel leak and Esko Raisvuo was a no-show. Derek  Flynn had his run disallowed for a blue line violation when crew chief Gary removed the throttle stop as the car was staging.

Finnish drivers Marko Leivo and Ari Pietila are on site to make licencing runs.

Qualifications day 2: The TMD session saw Dave Wilson go from nowhere to number one in a single pass, his 5.421/410.66 with at least 3 dropped cylinders shows the power of the A-Fuel car. Hanssen improved to a 5.437 and Derek Flynn also completed a pass and moved into the number 3 slot. Esko Raisvuo completed the set, becoming number 6 with 5.928/409.03. The Habermanns continue to be numbers 4 (Dennis) and 5 (Timo). Marko Leivo ran a 6.163/376.89 and had his licence signed but would have needed one qualification run to be allowed in competition. Well we hope he will have a long prosperous career ahead for the coming years and with the licence now completed he is free to enter any of the forthcoming events remaining.

Eliminations: Dave Wilson got an easy ride against Esko Raisvuo, who red-lit himself out of round one. Grumpy had a bye in the semi and chose to just stage and take the green to advance to the final. It was not a good day for the Habermanns, with both brothers losing in round one. Timo (5.563/413.24) against Fred Hanssen (5.437/410.19) in spite of a better reaction time and terminal speed and Dennis also fell foul of the dreaded red light, putting Dennis Flynn (5.447/426.00) into the semi against Fred.

The semi between the two was delayed as both had big thrash to fix damaged engines. A series of oil-downs gave them the time they needed and both appeared in time. When the clocks stopped it was Hanssen's team cheering. Derek left first and had a better 60' time but blazed the tyres after 2 seconds and Hanssen drove round him to claim a place in the final.

The honours went to Fred Hanssen for the second race in succession. He had the better reaction time and left well, then Dave went up in smoke before he had even gone 60'. He pedalled it and set off in pursuit, but it was never going to be enough, with Hanssen powering through for  5.370/415.49 to 8.897/175.69.

The points standings after the FHRA Nitro Nationals shows Fred Hanssen increased his  lead to 40 points (was 14 points before Wilson entering the Alastaro event). The third place is a close battle at this time between Flynn and Habermann. Both still have theoretical chances to climb to 2nd or even the 1st position.

Check the full points table under a separate headline.

Round #4 of the FIA Championship is held at HockenheimRing Germany august 12-14th
